(Single from album, "Love Lust Faith + Dreams")
From their arty, new, Damien Hirst decorated effort; Thirty Seconds bring the electronics to the foreground of their sound in this fascinatingly produced illustration of emotional concepts like war, life, love and even death. “Do Or Die” is a very interesting snippet of this release, characterised by it’s bopping, popping bursts of wah-wah synths, but steadfastly reminding listeners that this is the work of a rock band with weighty bangs of the drums, a passionate, crying vocal and the classic guitar power-chords of the chorus we have come to know and love. The continually changing style of drum-fills alone, are enough to retain listener captivation, though a desperate lyric and resounding, digital atmosphere hang about anyway to accentuate the highly-produced delivery, cementing this powerful and somewhat unique sonic’s place in today’s pop charts. I have to admit, it’s difficult to complain when a band comes along and cobbles together sounds from such a broad musical spectrum and with such toe-tapping results. Great stuff.
